For marathon runners preparing to enter the ritual known as Boston Marathon registration week soon, you are going to have to wait a little longer. The 2021 Boston Marathon registration process has been postponed.
The 2021 Boston Marathon Registration is Postponed
Normally, the Boston Marathon registration window opens in the next week or so and runs for about 2 weeks as it fills the various slots. Last year, over 3,000 runners still did not get into the Boston Marathon, even though they had qualified, because the cushion to clear the qualification time was over 1 minute faster.
Many runners were wondering what was going to happen for the 2021 Boston Marathon since this year’s actual race had been canceled. The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A) had put together a Covid-19 Medical and Event Operations Advisory Group that is made up for experts from various areas of concern for this event to try and navigate this new time we live in.
The findings issued by this group to the B.A.A. caused the 2021 Boston Marathon registration to be postponed and there is no timeline at this time for when the registration window will open. Of course, organizers want to get a better look at the likelihood of being able to hold the race on the normal Patriot’s Day in April again. I am sure a lot of that has to do both with the advances of the vaccine for covid-19 as well as the data on the virus’ movement through the US.
The Boston Marathon is truly an international event and there is a lot to consider before welcoming the runners of the world back to the much-loved streets of the Boston Marathon.
