There are a lot of people that are trying to sow up the Southwest Companion Pass as quick as possible so they can have it for most of 2016 and all of 2017. The easiest way to do that is by applying for two Southwest credit cards when they are at the 50,000 point level. With two of the three Southwest cards, that is pretty easy to find.
Southwest Plus Offer With 40,000 Points
With the Southwest Plus card, it can be harder to locate. There are personal referral offers floating around (go to this post to leave your e-mail if you have a 50K Plus referral) but it is always good to have a few options. While not the regular 50,000 points, the Plus can be had for 40,000 points by following the instructions below.
How To Find The Offer
– Southwest Plus Offer 40,000 Points
To get the 40,000 points, you will need to go to the link above and then scroll down until you see Not the card for you? At that point, click the on the More + link to reveal the Plus card at the 40,000 point amount as well.
When you click on the apply link, it will take you directly to the Southwest Plus application page. Go ahead and fill it out and you are set!
Good Deal Or No?
Obviously, this is missing the 10,000 points on the best Plus offer, but it also has half the spending requirement at only $1,000 in 3 months. Of course, you will still need to do some spending on the card to get to the total of 110,000 points between the cards, bonuses, and spending, but if your goal is not the Companion Pass right now, the $1,000 spending could be helpful.
As with all things like this, this is completely up to you. I did want to highlight the existence of this offer in case you want to apply now, but I would probably wait until I saw a 50,000 point public offer. They normally come out sometime between April – May.
Could The Southwest Plus Card Go Away?
To be honest, I am somewhat surprised that the Plus card has not been cut yet. I do not know when the last time was that I saw it being marketed as hard as the Premier gets marketed. Also, the business Plus got cut a while ago and having two personal cards that are different products can be just as confusing to the masses looking for the best card.
I think it started as being the younger, lower-fee brother to the Premier card. But with people more accepting of the higher fee cards (like at the $95 price point and up a bit), I think the time for the Plus card may be winding down. Of course, this is not due to inside knowledge, but it has been a little while since it was on the Chase website with all of their personal cards (though the Hyatt and Fairmont cards do not show up there either). So, take all of this opinion with a grain of salt as you consider when is a good time to apply for the Southwest Plus card!
Summary
If you are interested in getting the Southwest Plus card now and have not received a referral offer, this is the best public offer out there right now. While 40,000 points is a good amount, it is not the regular 50,000 points so consider whether you want to jump now or wait to have the better offer come out later. Either way, it is here in case you are interested!
