A Singapore Airlines 777 aircraft hit severe turbulence and it caused the death of one passenger and injuries to 30 other passengers.

We are all used to turbulence in the air but occasionally the turbulence is so severe as to cause damage inside the cabin of an aircraft and even injury. Unfortunately, this particular instance also saw one passenger die as a result.

Singapore Airlines Flight Hits Severe Turbulence, One Dead and Many Injured

This happened today on Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 flying from London to Singapore. It had to divert to Bangkok due to the severe turbulence. Here is what Singapore said about this incident:

While we do not know if the passengers injured in this had their seat belts on or not, this certainly is a powerful and sad reminder to all of us that it is always smart to keep your seat belt on during a flight. In a situation like this, as you can see from the photos, there was enough movement that an unbuckled passenger could be thrown with great force into another seat or straight up into the ceiling, causing severe neck damage.

Even those who were buckled, however, certainly still could have been hurt as you can see in the photos. This is certainly a tragic event, especially for the family of the passenger who died as a result. I’m sure it was quite traumatic to all the passengers onboard as well.
