IHG updated their Points Break hotel list last week. To see the post I made about it earlier, click here. The Points Break list is the best deal in hotel awards. It allows you to receive a free night during the promotional period for 5,000 points (which is a good deal less than the normal cost). The list rotates every so often. This current list is good for hotel stays through January 31, 2014.

Getting the Points – IHG Rewards Club Visa

Application Link – Chase IHG Rewards Club Visa – 80,000 points after spending $1,000 in 90 days (I do not receive a commission for this cardNote: This link takes you to a landing page without the terms of the bonus offer listed. There have been no reports of anyone not getting the 80K points. For more info, see this FlyerTalk link. If you feel more comfortable seeing the bonus offer spelled out, there is another offer that gives 60,000 points instead available here – I do not receive a commission for this either).

Points Break Hotel

You may not receive the points from the above card in time for this promo if you have your eyes on a particular property, but it is definitely a great card to get and hold for more Points Break hotels. The points from this offer will give you 16 nights at Point Break hotels! Not only that, but it also gives you a free night certificate at any IHG hotel annually (the annual fee is $49) and gives you IHG Platinum elite status (highest IHG status) as long as you hold the card. Great card that should be a keeper!

Points Break Hotel List

There are a couple of hundred hotels on the list so I will not listing them all here! However, if you are curious what hotels are available for booking this time around, head over here for the whole list. However, I did want to take this time to highlight some of the hotels that may work for the marathoners who have a race coming up before January 31, 2014. Even if you already have a hotel reserved, as long as it wasn’t a prepaid rate, you can still cancel that hotel and reserve one of these (which can also be cancelled).

So, are you running any of these marathons? If so, I would definitely jump on some of these point break hotels! They are a phenomanel deal for a great experience! Even if none of these will work for you this time, I highly advise you get the IHG Visa card so you will be prepared when a city does work for you!

  • Just wanted to say – I love this blog – Ran NY yesterday, thinking about my next Marathon and you have the best ones already listed out along with where to stay! Thanks again!

    • Thanks so much! I appreciate it! Congrats doing NY! How was it? Was it your first time there?

      • It was an unbelievable experience – I was suppose to run it last year until Sandy cancelled it – I was aiming for a Sub 4 but had an Asthma attack at Mile 21 which really did me in – Manged to eek by with a 4:17 but I’ll take it – Was my first Marathon – Only been running for 2 years.. The crowds were just amazing – Everyone calling out your name – really energizes you

        • Good for you! Great first time – my first time was 4:34. I also have Asthma so I know what you were going through. I had a nasty attack around mile 15 at the Illinois Marathon a couple of years ago (high pollen count). Let me give you something that I always tell me wife – “Don’t listen to anything I say regarding future races for the 3 days after a marathon.” You will say things like “Don’t ever let me do this again.” Don’t worry, the pain subsides and you will be picking out another one before you know it! If you need help with travel or are looking for at any marathon I may have run, feel free to shoot me an e-mail if I can help – charlie@runningwithmiles.com Good luck!

  • Really like this breakdown. Too bad I’m only doing one more local race and I’m done for the year 😉

    • C’mon, look at these great deals! You can’t be done – just do one more! 🙂 They have some in January!

  • Thanks for the list! This should become a regular post each time the points break list is released 🙂

    • I will definitely do my best to make it so! Hopefully they release some good hotels for the Spring marathon season!
