Multiple Marathon Monday – Jumping the Ocean
This Monday’s Multiple Marathon edition will not be for everyone but was an interesting idea I thought of when writing up the Flying Blue Promo post from last week. I am sure there are a number of you that are running the Chicago Marathon on October 13th. If you live in the Chicago area, this would be even more useful for you.
If you are signed up for the Chicago marathon, I assume this is your race of intent. This would be the race that you have planned for and spent your training on. Now, let’s assume you do fantastic (like I am sure you will!) – how do you celebrate? Or what if you have a bad race day – how do you get redemption? Head to Frankfurt two weeks later for the Frankfurt marathon!
If you are near Chicago, you are in a perfect situation to take advantage of the Flying Blue promo. Remember, these promo awards cannot be booked until after August 27th, but after that time, you will be able to book an award economy ticket on KLM or Air France for 25,000 miles round-trip (from Chicago). The fuel surcharges will be 50 euro each way plus taxes, so you should be able to book the ticket for 25,000 miles and around $150.
So, you run the Chicago marathon and less than two weeks later, hop on over to Germany on the cheap to run one of the major European marathons. This will give you another continent and another country for less than the bonus of a credit card application. Not too bad. To check which of those cards will give you those miles, check out this Flying Blue Promo post. At this time, there is great availability for those flights (remember, these will drop to 12,500 miles each way after August 27th.
Summary:
So, what do you think? Are you up for an October double? This could be one of the cheapest ways for you to experience a marathon on two continents in the same month. If I was in Chicago, I would definitely consider this race pattern.
