Best Buy used to have an open-box section on their website that was just for particular stores. You could buy it online and then pick it up in store. Then they pulled the functionality that allowed you to purchase certain things online that way (like Apple products). Finally, they put that back and now they offer open-box or certified refurbished items for shipping – on many of their items.
Open-Box Pricing Is Even Better Than Black Friday Pricing!
The great thing about this is that the discount offered is automatically tied to the price at the time of the new item (unlike some places where you might find open-box items more expensive than new because of the prices do not shift). With Best Buy, the percentage of the discount given automatically changes the price on the open-box and refurbished items when the new one goes on sale.
And, that works for Black Friday pricing so far! That means that if you find a great deal on some item with Black Friday pricing, you may also find that there is an open-box item that has an even lower price. I have bought a lot of open-box items from Best Buy over the years and they have (almost 100% of the time) been perfect. Or the ones that weren’t were discounted so heavily that I could afford to overlook a missing charger. But, the items I have bought online like this are in great shape. If not, simply return it to the store or through the mail! No problems! If you are a Best Buy elite, you even get an extended return time of either 30 or 45 days depending on your status level.
Finding Open Box Items
When you are looking in a category, you can scroll all the way down and select the box on the left of the screen that says Open Box and it will only show you items that are available with open box items as well. The open-box pricing is located just below the Add to Cart button. If there is an open-box item available, that is where it will be.
Is It Worth It?
Whether it is worth it or not to take a 10% discount for an open-box vs new is up to you. For me, I have found it to be the difference in obtaining better models of items in the past (because it put the better model in my price range). There is also one other key part about this. I have seeing some sale items out of stock, but the open-box ones, at discounted prices, are still in stock and can be ordered! So, if you miss out on a particular item this weekend, check for open box pricing and see if you can snag something at a better price than Black Friday prices!
