I first wrote about Silvercar, the app-driven premium rental car service, last year as it launched. They are not in every city, but they are expanding. The great thing right now is that they are trying to encourage you to encourage your friends to rent with them – and they are willing to pay you a big referral!
The Silvercar Referral Program
With the Silvercar referral program, they will pay you $100 for every first-time renter who rents a car for a minimum of two days. To make it even sweeter, when you reach five renters through your code, you will receive an extra $500! That means for 5 renters, you will have earned a cool $1,000! Not bad at all! (That extra $500 apparently only applies to the first five renters, not every five)
The biggest downside to this is that they are not offering any incentive to others who actually do rent through this referral. Last year, they were offering people $50 off the rental. Apparently, they are relying heavier on the strength of their product to entice new renters and are instead seeking to drive people to encourage friends and family to sign up.
To sign up for a referral code, visit this site here.
If you have a referral code, feel free to leave that in the comments. I am not including mine here, but trying to give others a chance at getting people signed up. If you plan on renting a car, please use one of the links below – I am sure they will appreciate it! 🙂
The Rental Cost
Renting a car is actually not that expensive given what it is. I am finding weekend dates at many locations for $159 for a two day rental (that includes taxes and fees). To rent an Audi A4 with just using your smartphone and the ease of skipping the rental areas, that is not that bad of a price!
Premium car for everyone
The only car that Silvercar rents out is the Audi A4 and it comes loaded for the renter – free multi-media navigation system, free Sirius/XM satellite radio, free WiFi hotspot, as well as other features to simply the process for the driver.
Simplified rental process
No more lines! You simply download the Silvercar app, make your reservation and go to your car. You then actually use your Silvercar app to get into your car and then receive your receipt when returned. I have not tried it yet, but that all sounds very good to me!
Limited cities
At this time, they are only in a few cities:
- Austin, TX (AUS)
- Denver, CO (DEN)
- Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX (DFW)
- Dallas, TX (Love Airport)
- Miami, FL (MIA)
- Phoenix, AZ (PHX)
- Los Angeles, CA (LAX)
- San Francisco, CA (SFO)
Summary
I wish I was in a city soon to take advantage of Silvercar. It sounds really cool and reports have been promising. But, I also hope that some of you can get some signups on your referrals below! It might help others as well if you can comment on whether you have used Silvercar before and what your experience was. You could probably have a family member (like kid or something:) refer you and that would drive your out-of-pocket cost down even more on this service!
Nice that you’re not pimping out your referral link like most of the other bloggers. Silvercar is pretty sweet. Based here in Austin and my roommate uses it all the time. My referral code is GGOUCHER if anyone wants to help a non-blogger out.
Wait so is it $100 no strings attached, or is it $100 towards silverware??
It is a $100 Visa gift card – no strings attached. Gotta love the autocorrect! 😉
Thanks for your offer to promote our own referral code for Silvercar. This is mine: CHEINZ
