The American Express Busines Platinum just got a new benefit, the $179 annual fee on the CLEAR program. Find out about this and see if it is for you.

Last week, I wrote about the new changes coming to the American Express Platinum card – the personal version. In the information I received about the changes, there was also a small note about a new addition to the Amex Business Platinum version.

CLEAR gives you quicker access at many airports around the US. It does not replace TSA Precheck but is a nice supplemental point of access since it helps you skip the queue that appears to be getting longer and longer all the time, even in Precheck lines.

CLEAR costs $179 per year, at retail. But, there are many ways you can get free months through various loyalty programs or discount offers. Probably one of the best deals is getting 4 months free with TripIt Pro and then only paying $149 per year with their discount.

But, you don’t really need to hunt around or even take the $179 fee into account in figuring if the Business Platinum is worth it since this is now just added as a feature to the card without the fee going up on the Business Platinum (unlike the Personal version). The annual fee on this card is $595 so already a hefty one but since it is for businesses, it is easier to justify for many small businesses that value the perks and points of this card.

CLEAR is ever expanding as well, including at things like stadiums. If you are a NYC resident, you will be able to take advantage of CLEAR access at airpots as well as at Madison Square Garden, Yankee Stadium and the Citi Field.

If you currently have the American Express Business Platinum, this new addition to the card is a no-brainer to take advantage of. If you do not currently have the card, this is definitely not a reason to get the card! 🙂
