Aegean Airlines is a pretty impressive airline for many reasons – and the awards they get each and every year back that up. The national airline of Greece not only connects some of the most beautiful vacation destinations in the world with the mainland but its young fleet is helping it to expand to more and more destinations around Europe, North Africa, and Asia. Here are the latest international routes that Aegean is bringing for 2020.
New International Routes from Aegean Means Better Access to the Greek Nation
Greece is an absolutely beautiful place to visit and that is not just speaking of the islands! The two largest cities in Greece, Athens in the south and Thessaloniki in the north, both have a great deal of culture to offer visiting tourists. In fact, starting just 40 minutes away from the Thessaloniki airport is the three-fingers of Halkidiki, home to gorgeous waters and equally beautiful hotels and resorts (including TripAdvisor’s #1 all-inclusive resort in 2019).
To help you get there and also to help those in Greece to visit more beautiful destinations, Aegean Airlines has announced 11 new routes to come in 2020.
From their hub in norther Greece in the city of Thessaloniki (which is getting a major airport upgrade), here are the new destinations from there:
- Barcelona
- Brussels
- Rome
- Milan
- Zurich
- Berlin
This is good news for anyone that wants a non-stop flight to/from any of these cities and Thessaloniki as now it requires a stop in Athens (longer flight since it is further south) or using Ryanair-serviced airports outside of city centers in some of these cities.
For Athens, here are the new international destinations:
- Birmingham
- Paphos
- Bilbao
- Nuremberg
Finally, Aegean is also establishing a base in Corfu and that will launch a non-stop between Corfu and Paris.
These new routes will bring the total number of destinations with Aegean to 155 cities – not bad at all for a regional airline with great service and aircraft!
Wow Charlie, with the amount of time you spend in Greece you should live there, although that might deprive us of hotel reviews, which are always nice to read. Aegean is a good airline and I enjoy flying them. Any idea if plans to go transatlantic are in the works?
Haha! I actually do live in Greece a lot of the time but still travel a bit. 🙂 It is a great country to spend time in for sure! Also, it can be quite reasonable to stay in as well.
I count 10 new routes in the article. Which is the 11th?
Thanks for catching that I missed that! The 11th is from Athens to Nuremberg.
