This was the offer that would not die. The amazing American Airlines 100,000 mile offer that surfaced in January lasted for 6 months before losing the landing page (which described the benefits and bonuses). Shortly after that, a “zombie” link came out (a link that went to the application page without showing bonus information) and it was confirmed to have the same 100,000 miles tied to it.
But, that page, too, disappeared for a couple of days before coming back again! Well, as of this morning, it appears that the zombie link is also dead. Could this be the final death or will it come back yet again? I am frankly surprised it had lasted this long! If you are still wanting to secure some AA miles, check out this post for the other offers of 75K and 50K.
Most people would have already applied for and received this card had they been interested in it, so the death of it does not affect most customers. However, there are some that are on their 4th and 5th cards and have been waiting for the Citi calendar to allow them to apply for more. For them, this end will come as a disappointment. I got what I needed out of this great offer. Had I been in the US, I would have gone for more as well, but being European-based makes for some unpleasantly high fees for travel that I need and it makes it a little more difficult to meet the $10K in spending here – not a lot of manufactured spending opportunities. 🙂
Do you think it will come back? Did you get out of it what you needed?
Well, you had me fooled! All this time I thought you were US based! 😉 Though you say there aren’t that many opportunities for MS in Europe, perhaps the better saying is that MS is not widely used in Europe as it is in USA. Be the pioneer and experiment with various methods of MS and perhaps create new ones that are specific to Europe only. That’s probably how MS started here in the USA.
Well, I am and think like American-based, but physically, I am in Greece right now. 🙂 You are correct with the choice of words with MS also. That is the challenge – I actually feel like I am the bad guy just using a credit card around here as cards are not often used. Also, the second-hand market does not really exist like it does in the US (which is what I understand better than other methods).
