Yesterday, Southwest opened up their schedule to accept reservations through June 5. Like JetBlue, Southwest opens reservations every 6 weeks or so for about 7 months, instead of doing a rolling schedule like the other airlines. So, now you can book your award and cash reservations for right up through June 5.

Good News For Boston Marathon Travel!
This is great news for all customers who want to start getting a jump on their Memorial Day travel plans. It is also very good news for anyone who is traveling to the Boston Marathon as the new schedule now includes those dates! Southwest is a great (cheap) way to get around and now those planning on running Boston can secure their travel with Southwest.
Another great thing about Southwest is that Manchester and Providence are also airports they fly to and only about an hour from Boston. So, if you find a cheaper price on Southwest into one of those airports, you also have them as options.
Getting Southwest Points
You do have plenty of time between now and Boston to get Southwest points if you don’t already have them. Chase’s Ultimate Reward points transfer at a rate of 1:1 to Southwest so you can get them that way (from points earned through the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the Chase Ink Plus cards). You can also sign up for any of four Southwest credit cards that will give you 50,000 points after meeting the required spending.
One of the great things about Southwest is that you can book a flight with cash or points and cancel at any time (up to 10 minutes before the flight leaves). If you book with cash and cancel, you will receive a refund as a credit to be used on Southwest. If you use points, they will go right back into your account. This way, you can lock in a ticket and keep checking for the price to drop to rebook when that happens.
