Alaska’s Mileage Plan program is still an incredibly valuable way to both earn and redeem miles. Not only are they partners with airlines across the alliances (and outside of alliances) but their award chart is still quite generous even as other US airlines have devalued their whole premium chart over the years. With this latest offer, you can earn 30,000 of those valuable miles, a $100 statement credit and get a free companion ticket!
Alaska Airlines Card Offer: 30K Miles, $100 Credit, & Free Companion Ticket
Link: Alaska Airlines 30K Offer
This card has been at the 30K amount for quite some time (even when it was not officially there) and there has often been a $100 credit available as well (though not generally on the regular public offer). The substantial thing that has changed this time around is the Companion Ticket. Alaska offers this companion ticket annually but it costs $121 for the companion (and full price on the primary ticket). The cool thing is that both passengers earn miles so it is a nice deal.
But, for a limited-time, you can apply and get that companion ticket free for the first year! That means this card offer just picked up another $100+ in value (if you use the companion ticket). Here are the details of this Alaska Airlines card offer:
- Get a $100 statement credit and 30,000 bonus miles after you make $1,000 or more in purchases within the first 90 days of your account opening
- Buy one ticket, get one for just the taxes and fees ($0 fare plus taxes and fees from just $22) after you make $1,000 or more in purchases within the first 90 days of your account opening.
- There are no blackout dates
- Save with a free checked bag on Alaska and Virgin America flights for you and up to six other passengers on the same reservation
- Earn 3 miles for every $1 spent directly on Alaska Airlines and Virgin America and 1 mile for every $1 spent on all other purchases.
- No foreign transaction fees
- $75 annual fee
Analysis
This Alaska Airline card offer is certainly the best available and can be incredibly valuable when you figure in the miles, credit, and free companion ticket. You will pay the $75 annual fee but the statement credit wipes that out.
The spending is quite low for an airline card and I would say that the miles, though lower in offer than other airline cards, are just about on par with those other offers because of what you can do with them. Factor in the free companion ticket (free for the first year, back to the $121 for the following years) and you have a real winner of a card offer.
The Value of the Miles
Consider this – you can use Alaska miles to fly Cathay Pacific’s excellent business class from the US to Asia for only 50,000 miles one way! American Airlines would charge 70,000 miles for any such award to Asia region 2! You could also fly Qantas first class (when you can find it!) from the US to Australia for only 70,000 Alaska miles one way. American Airlines? Try 110,000 miles for that same flight!
Caution: Bank of America does approve some customers for the lower Platinum Plus offer (5,000 miles) and can do so without warning. This is factored by the issuer when the consider the card applicant. I have never had this happen in all of my Alaska cards but do take note that it is a possibility.
HT: Frequent Miler for the direct link
Thanks for the heads up on the offer and the warning re: Platinum Plus. That happened on one of my wife’s applications. Two questions: (1) Are previous cardholders eligible for this offer? (2) What about current cardholders?
