Use Chase Points For Some Gift Cards with a 10% Discount – And Still A Terrible Deal

For some gift cards, you can now use Chase points for gift cards with a 10% discount. But, this is still not a good deal as you can get gift cards indirectly for much less!

It pains me to even write this as gift cards tend to be one of the worst ways to use your Chase points, but if shopping is what you like to use your points for, then who am I to tell you “no”! 🙂

Use Chase Points for Gift Cards with a 10% Discount

If you do like to use your Chase points for gift cards, this discount sale may help you. Again, this is far from the best way to use your Chase points!

Here are the stores that are eligible for this 10% discount when you use your Chase points for gift cards:

  • Gap
  • Banana Republic
  • Old Navy
  • Athleta

All of their gift cards through the Ultimate Rewards redemption area are discounted 10% and this “sale” runs through January 3, 2017.

… And Still A Terrible Deal!

So, why do I say it is a terrible deal? If you were to take your Chase points as a direct cash payout for 1 point per cent, you could then take your cash to purchase gift cards from someplace like Raise.com where you can buy, for example, Gap gift cards at a 14% discount. That is even more than you would get here! Plus, do not forget, if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you can redeem your points for travel at a rate of 1.2 cents per point and 1.5 cents per point if you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Even if you don’t like transferring your Chase points to partners (or can’t because you only have the Freedom card), there are still better deals to be had than redeeming your Chase points for gift cards – even at a 10% discount.

But, if you still want to do it, simply login to your Chase rewards account and add those cards to your cart. The discount is hard-coded so it is automatically discounted.
