Turkish Airlines May Start Flying A380s

Turkish Airlines

I have flown Turkish Airlines several times (I have a review of their business class product coming soon) and have always found it to be a pleasant experience. Probably one of the best things about flying Turkish Airlines, to me, is that I get to transit through Istanbul and spend sometime in their awesome business class lounge. In my opinion (see my review to see for yourself), I think it is definitely one of the best business class lounges around. They have done a fantastic job with it and makes any layover in Istanbul a more pleasant experience.

Turkish Airlines May Start Flying A380s

Turkish Airlines is actually growing more and more and they have been quite aggressive with expanding their market around the world. They are uniquely situated (geographically) in a way that lets them reach all of the high-traveled areas in an effective way. One of the best parts about flying with them on award tickets (using United miles, for example) is that their taxes are far lower for both airport fees and European origination than any other European airline. For a family traveling (as ours did last year) on Turkish, that savings on those fees can be quite substantial.

One of the interesting things about Turkish Airlines and their on-board product is that they do not currently fly a first class cabin(as in longhaul). They have economy class, comfort class (which is actually on par with many business class products, surpassing domestic first class cabins for sure), and their business class. I have flown in economy and business and both have been enjoyable experiences.

Maybe this plane will soon be flown by Turkish Airlines!

But, it would be interesting to see what they could do with a bigger plane and that may just happen. It is said that talks are going on that may see Turkish Airlines leasing 2 Airbus A380 planes from Malaysia Airlines. This could be a great chance to fly on this bird with Turkish as well as see how they would handle flying that aircraft on their network. These talks may be formalized in the coming days.

I really hope this works out as I like flying on Turkish and love flying on the A380. It would make a great option for European travel on one of these big birds to be sure. If you want to see what the first class cabin on the Malaysia Airlines A380 looks like, check out the review at One Mile At A Time.

  • Turkish Airlines sounds like an airline with a bright future. They just need to sort out their award booking so that you can pay for taxes, fees with a credit card and not have to find a Turkish Airlines Office.

  • Exciting! TK used to have first class service a few years back (Lucky had a review where he was the only one in F!)
It would be interesting which route they choose to operate this on. Sadly, I doubt it will be JFK, where I am based, but hopefully it will be at least a 10 hour flight.
