If you are shopping for pieces of luggage or travel accessories, then you should always be on the lookout for the somewhat frequent deals on eBags. Not only are they pretty much a staple of the Amex Offer library of deals, but they also see nice bumps in portal payouts. When those come together, along with the very common discount code, that is the time to jump for some luggage deals.

Here is how we put it together.

The Deal Trifecta – 15X Miles, $20 Off Discount, & Amex Offer

Amex Offer: $10 Back on $50 eBags Purchase

Combine the Amex Offer with these other deals

Note: I do not know if this is still available to save to your account as I already saved it to my accounts. Check in the Amex Offers part of your Amex page to see if it is there. If you have already saved it, you are good to go.

Accessing the Amex Offer

Log in to your American Express account and click on any of the cards you have in the account. Scroll down to the Offers portion and you should see the following offer waiting for you!

Here are the details:

  • Must be used by September 20, 2015
  • Must be used online
  • Enrollment limited

To maximize itadd the offer to separate cards, simply login to your American Express account and then choose to duplicate the tab (if using Google Chrome) as many times as you have cards. Once they are all open, select a different Amex card in each tab and select to save the offer to the card. This shows up as available on every one of my cards – charge cards, business cards, and personal cards.

Maximizing The Offer – Employing The Trifecta

To maximize this deal to get the most for your money, make sure you do these steps:

Go Through United’s MileagePlus Shopping Portal – 15X United miles

eBags

Nice bonus on eBags purchases!

Today, United bumped the earnings on their eBags referral to 15X miles . This is nice bump that should net you some serious miles, depending on your purchases. Make sure you start your purchases through the shopping portal – here.

Use Discount Code

eBags

Get the $20 discount when you click through the UA shopping portal

While discount codes can void your portal bonuses, they won’t if you use codes that are found on the website or on the portal site. In this case, the discount code is activated when you click through the shopping portal. It is $20 off purchases of $100 or more. Not everything is valid with the code, but things like TravelPro will work.

Sign-up for their rewards program

You will receive a 5% bonus in the rewards program on everything you buy. This bonus can be used on future purchases.

Putting It All Together

eBags

An example showing the $20 discount

When you put it all together, here is how a $100 purchase will work out:

  • $100 item(s)
  • – $20 (the eBags discount)
  • 5% rebate for future purchases ($4)
  • 15X miles on the $80 – 1,200 United miles
  • – $10 from the Amex Offer
  • Total on $100 item – $70 spent, 1,200 United miles earned (value at least $18), and $4 for future purchase at eBags.

All in all, this is a pretty good deal! If you are looking for some gear, try it out to see what kind of deals you can get!

  • Just the triple dip I’ve been waiting for!
Say, do you know if there’s anyway to pay total with two credit cards?
Will CS help with this if one calls in, or would that then nullify portal/discount?
Thanks, as always. Enjoy your weekend!

(P.S. Have you posted any more updates on your experiences there in Greece? If so, please direct me to any links.)

    • Awesome! If you call in, you will not get the portal. However, you should be able to buy a gift card with one card and then use that and another credit card combined with the final purchase. Enjoy your weekend as well! I have not written about Greece since the capital controls were put into place but was going to do another one sometime next month. Thanks for asking! In fact, check back on Monday for some very interesting flight deals! 🙂

    • While that is certainly true with many products, it is also possible to get some deals with combos like this. Not even counting the miles, the other two aspects of the deal have gotten prices lower on some things I have bought before. It always pays to look around, though, as you say!
