This was something that I had mentioned a while ago I imagined happening at some point as 2 free nights at some of the best chain hotels in the world (that can easily command over $1,000 per night) was just too good to last. And, that is happening as the Chase Hyatt card will be replacing its two free nights with a point offering (one which had been targeted before).
No More Free Night Sign-up Bonus with the Chase Hyatt Card
Effective June 29, 2017, the Chase Hyatt card will be dropping the 2 free nights as the sign-up bonus and replacing them with 40,000 World of Hyatt points instead.

The Chase Hyatt card has long been a favorite of mine and many others as it offered incredible value in the two free nights. At one point, the sign-up bonus was even earned after first purchase while it steadily went up in minimum spending requirement – $1,000 and now $2,000 – to trigger the sign-up bonus. In fact, there was even a time when the 2 free nights could be redeemed for suites if you were a Diamond member!
The World of Hyatt program has 7 categories for award purposes stretching from 5,000 points per night for a Category 1 all the way to 30,000 points for a Category 7. If you were going to redeem your free nights at a Category 7 (like the Park Hyatt New York), the bonus would have been the equivalent of 60,000 points.
Now, it will only be 40,000 points – or up to 2 free nights at a Category 5. There is still a lot of value to be had with this sign-up bonus but if you want the two free nights at a Category 6 or 7, you had better sign-up for this card before June 29!

Honestly, I like the points more than the 2 free nights as someone who stays in Hyatt Cat 5 and lower. I love being able to use points for C&P booking. At the end of July, it would be two years since I got the bonus on this card, so I am going to sign up again.

Agree with P. As a guy with kids, I’d rather split the points up and I also value the chance to carry points longer than the 1 year certificates.
2 card household. I got each card when we were going to a place with an awesome PH. It was a fun experience. The yearly free night cert is good too. It could be worth more to some with points, but worthwhile either way.
