Marriott 70,000 Point Offer Still Going Strong

I know that many people had pointed to the offer for the Marriott 70,000 point card that it was to have expired yesterday. However, banks have various offers and channels through which they extend offers and even though the offer that expired yesterday is indeed over, there are other Marriott 70,000 point offers!

Marriott 70,000 Point Offer Still Here

Marriott 70,000 point

The Marriott 70,000 point offer is still alive!

The one I first wrote about last month has an expiration date of September 15th, so if you have not applied yet, you still have plenty of time to get that done. Not only that, but there are two versions of the offer. They both have the same main points:

  • 70,000 points
  • 1 free certificate for category 1 – 4 after account is opened
  • 1 annual certificate for category 1 – 5

The biggest differences between the offers is that one requires $2,000 spending in 3 months and the other requires $1,000 in 3 months. Digging deeper, another difference is that the $2,000 spending offer allows you to get the 70,000 points again if you have not received the bonus in the past 24 months while the $1,000 offer is a once-in-a-lifetime offer. Strange isn’t it? Same card, same points, but slightly different terms!

Offer #1 – Marriott 70,000 points after spending $2,000 in 3 months (churnable)

Application Link – Marriott 70,000 points

This application can (and should) be used if you have previously held this card. If you last received a sign-up bonus from this card at least 24 months ago, you can go ahead and apply for this one. The only difference is that you will not receive the free certificate for opening the account (though you will receive the annual certificate).

Here is a link to the terms so that you can keep a copy for your records. Here are the details for the offer:

  • 70,000 bonus points after spending $2,000 in the first 90 days
  • 1 FREE night Category 1 – 4 after account approval
  • 1 FREE night Category 1 – 5 every year after your account anniversary
  • 15 credits towards your Elite membership annually after your account anniversary (free Silver status)
  • 1 additional elite credit for every $3,000 spent
  • Annual fee ($85) waived the first year
  • Offer good through September 15

Offer #2 – Marriott 70,000 points after spending $1,000 in 3 months

Application Link – Marriott 70,000 points

This offer should be used if you have never had a Marriott card before as it requires less spending. It is the same card as above, just less spending and meant for the person who had not held the card before.

  • 70,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 in the first 90 days
  • 1 FREE night Category 1 – 4 after account approval
  • 1 FREE night Category 1 – 5 every year after your account anniversary
  • 15 credits towards your Elite membership annually after your account anniversary (free Silver status)
  • 1 additional elite credit for every $3,000 spent
  • Annual fee ($85) waived the first year

Summary

So, contrary to what you may have thought, the card offer of 70,000 points has not died. However, the way for you to earn a referral in Marriott points has expired, so these links are the way to go to apply for a card now.  If you have been on the fence, know that this would be a good card to get if you value hotel stays. This is a lot of points that you will get for free (no annual fee the first year). Even if you do not value the hotel aspect, you can still transfer to airlines, though not at a great ratio. Ultimately, it is up to you, but I would definitely consider adding this card to your wallet if you have not already.

  • Can you register for the Ritz Carlton 140,000 offer and provide your MR # to have the points credit to your Marriott account?

  • Churnable offer appears over. The terms associated with the link above in offer 1 state that it is not available to previous card holders.

    • No, the terms on the application page are their generic “may not” stuff that provides an umbrella on other terms. It is the specific terms of the card offer that govern what happens and those terms I gave the specific link for. It is still available to churn (providing it has been at least 24 months since receiving the bonus and that you do not currently have the card).

  • This offer has been out for SEVERAL months but the only reason it’s getting a bunch of press now and a “hurry up and sign up” push from the bloggers is the affiliate payouts.

    • To be clear, I wrote about it before, even before the affiliate networks had links for the card. Also, I do not receive anything for this card but did want to mention it again in case people thought that their last chance had ended yesterday. I very clearly state when I receive a commission for a card and this one I do not.
