Citi has had 50,000 mile offers on and off for their personal and business Platinum cards. The business one has crept up again and is definitely one that you should consider! AA is the remaining carrier in the US that has not devalued their award chart (which I would expect to change at some point) and there are some tremendous values to be had!

50,000 AA Miles With The Citi AAdvantage Business Card

50,000 AA milesThe personal card continues to be at the 50,000 mile level – here – and the Executive AAdvantage card is at a limited-time offer of 75,000 miles (here). The tough part about the Executive AAdvantage card is that you have a $450 annual fee – up front!

Thanks to this business card and the personal Platinum card, it is possible to get 100,000 miles for no up-front annual fee and less of a spending requirement!

  • Spend $3,000 in the first 3 months
  • Receive 50,000 AA miles after spending is met
  • Annual Fee – $95 (waived the first year)
  • First checked bag free for up to 4 passengers on the same reservation (domestic only)
  • $99 Companion Ticket after spending $30,000 in a year

Using AA Miles

I have been using more AA miles over the last year or so even though they never used to be of great use to me (too focused on Delta!). However, there is tremendous value to be had with AA miles! I have used them to fly first class on Cathay Pacific, fly coach to Iceland from Greece for only 10,000 miles, used them to fly Etihad’s First Apartment, and have already booked another First Apartment journey – this time to Australia.

First Apartment

Etihad’s First Apartment can be yours for 40,000 miles!

With it costing 40,000 miles in first class (one way) to go from/to Europe to the whole Middle East/Indian Subcontinent, AA miles provide an incredible value. Since you can fly between London and Abu Dhabi on Etihad’s A380 and their First Apartment class, that is an even better value.

This offer of 50,000 miles gives you more than enough to make that journey or just leaves you 10,000 miles shy of the even longer Abu-Dhabi – Sydney flight.

If you ever wanted to rack up on AA miles, now is the time. Of course, that is worrisome as well since it would not be surprising to see them supplying a glut of miles before a devaluation. But, if you have trips in mind, they make great sense and value!

  • Has Etihad released award space on Etihad apartment as of late? Last I heard people have only seen F award space on EY 777s.

    • To JFK or just in general? I haven’t searched for JFK lately but have seen quite a bit on the London and Sydney routes. In fact, was going to book for London again, but found a business seat instead so am going to try that.

  • Hi,
I have this card currently open. Is this a card that’s churnable like AA Exec card?
Or does the 18 month rule apply to this?

    • There is no 18 month language though it does say first time customers only. However, Citi has normally operated that if you get approved, you would get the bonus.

  • Hey Charlie,
I close my AA Citi bus card 1 year ago, can I still apply for this card and receive the bonus? Terms did mention about it being good only for new applicants.

    • The normal course for Citi is that if you get approved, you will get the bonus. I cannot say with absolute certainty that it will happen on this one, but that has been how Citi operates in the past.
