Why Everyone Should Get The SPG Credit Cards

Here are some reasons that you probably would really like the SPG credit card points – even if you don’t like traveling! You can do things like play with NBA stars, cook with famous chefs, go behind-the-scenes at huge events and a lot more!

Ok, first things first – it is not so that I get affiliate money (though I would but I prefer the referral points myself!)! 🙂 I have been talking to a lot of people lately that really aren’t into traveling much but they always want to ask what credit card is good for them regardless. It is true that there are some smart choices out there that can give you things like 2% cash back.

Why Everyone Should Get the SPG Credit Cards?

But when it comes to credit card rewards, some people like to look at something more than just cash back. Just like we enjoy the value of getting points from spending that we can use for things like travel and even aspirational travel, non-travelers still like the concept of getting something extra from their credit card rewards than just a “boring” cash back amount on their monthly statement.

So, why should everyone get the SPG credit cards? I mean, these are hotel credit cards and even they won’t be around for a whole lot longer (though it does appear that would be around through at least October of 2018) so why are they of interest?

Flexibility Is Key!

It is because they are so incredibly flexible! Not only can you redeem for hotels, but you can also transfer to airlines, book airfare with them, get travel packages, and more! But, if travel is not your game, the value in them is in the “more” I just mentioned.

Incredible Experiences!

SPG Moment Auctions present some incredible experiences that many people would really like. If you like sports, music, cooking, and/or art, there are a lot of auctions you should be interested in! Not only are they some things that you could get using points and save money on, but there are some things that you wouldn’t even be able to spend money on!

Basketball with a Star!

Consider the SPG auction that is ending in just a few hours – gaining some skills in an intimate setting with NBA star Dwyane Wade. This is something that I got some questions about from some very interested NBA fans – how could they get this? The answer, unfortunately for them, is they can only get it with SPG points. I say “unfortunately” because they didn’t even have a single SPG point.

Huge MLB Fan Experiences!

Or, how about throwing out a first pitch at Game 7 of the World Series last year? Yes, Dan from Dan’s Deals cashed in 1 million Starpoints for that special privilege. You couldn’t buy that opportunity with money or fame (well, for the most part on the fame!). You could also use points to get great tour packages, music packages, cooking packages, access to some famous people and much more!

Getting the SPG Points

SPG points do come slowly, though. The current SPG bonuses are at 25,000 points on both the personal and the business cards. Of course, you can earn points for referring those cards to other customers once you get them yourself – up to 55,000 points per card per year! Then there are the occasional spending bonuses that come to them as well as the opportunity every few months to buy them at a discount.

One more interesting method is to get Marriott cards and convert Marriott points to SPG Starpoints at a 3:1 ratio. That opens up even more points that you could get!

I normally recommend using SPG points for travel purposes but there is a lot more to them than just travel. In the end, if you got completely bored collecting them and waiting for your perfect package, you could always get Amazon gift cards – but I wouldn’t recommend that. 🙂 Still, it just goes to show that these cards can pretty much cover just about everyone!

  • What do you think about transferring Chase UR to Marriott and then from Marriott on to SPG, is that normally pretty bad redemption value or not? I earn 1.5x with my FU so not sure what to think… Have you ever done it?
