eBay is Hosting Their Own “Prime Day” – What You Should Know

Written by Charlie

Amazon is not the only one that will be slashing prices next week! eBay is having their own kind of “Prime Day” with the promise of exclusive deals and discounts – without a $119 membership fee. In fact, they are highlighting some nice deals you can get with that $119 instead! Find out what you should know!

Amazon really started something with Prime Day. Now, other retailers are pretty much forced into offering similar sales to attract any customers at all during that period of sales. Many savvy shoppers will be paying attention to just Amazon that day but other retailers want your attention as well. Enter eBay with their own version of Prime Day!

If you have been shopping on eBay at all in the last few days, you may have noticed eBay’s constant saying that goes something like this “sales with no membership required – ever.” This is clearly a knock at the fact that you have to be an Amazon Prime member to take advantage of their Prime Day sales (though you can get that Prime membership as a trial for free).

However, with eBay, it is a little more difficult. Since they are an online marketplace, they are not the seller on the millions of items on their site. This means they cannot just unleash deals on other people’s items. But, they do have some big sales planned that will be available on their site for the Prime Day period! This means to definitely look out for some major deals on July 16 – 17!

Sitewide Coupons

Here is how they can do this. First, they will likely be rolling out the same type of discount codes we have seen since March – 15% or 20% off just about anything on eBay with a $100 cap. I doubt they will use the $50 cap as they will really want to draw buyers. So, look for discount codes to come out, maybe even higher discount codes for limited-time periods throughout the day. (they just had two last week)

Exclusive Deals

Another thing they can do is to work with their preferred sellers that are promoted on their Deals page. In the past, we have seen some significant deals available there and I have no doubt that it will be the same next week. Here are just some of the manufacturers that will be offered with exclusive deals:

  • Apple
  • Samsung
  • Dyson
  • KitchenAid
  • and hundreds more
Spend $119 the Way You Want

eBay is also making a big play on the cost of Prime membership from Amazon ($119). They say that you should spend that $119 in better ways and they are planning on offering up some compelling alternatives.

Already, you can take advantage of this $119 price by buying anything on eBay for $119 or over and you will get a free Google Home Mini (regularly $49) when you use code PMINI4FREE at checkout. For some ideas, consider this refurb Garmin 35 watch for just $119 – that is a pretty nice deal on a watch that will give you everything you need for your running!

Best Price Guarantee

Here is another thing that eBay has started doing (and is a permanent move by them) – if you buy something that falls under the categories below and find it cheaper on a competitor site, you can get 110% of the difference paid back to you! All you need to do is contact customer service within 48 hours of your purchase to put it in motion.

Items qualifying for the Best Price Guarantee are:

  • Any product that displays the Best Price Guarantee badge, including the Top 20 best selling products across thousands of categories as well any item in our eBay Deals program.*
  • Eligible items must be available from an approved competitor, including Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, HomeDepot.com, Jet.com, Sears.com, Target.com, Walmart.com, and Wayfair.com.
  • Both items (listed on eBay and the approved competitor’s website) should be exactly the same and currently in stock.

Could Be Great Time for Sellers!

If you have some stuff to sell, you may want to wait and see what eBay does on Monday! I have been able to turn items around for higher than normal prices when I advertise the coupons available (since it marks it lower than what they would pay without the coupon anyway). This is a nice way to make up for the eBay fees!

So, get your items ready and see what comes! If it is good for buyers, it will likely be good for sellers as well since eBay will be eating the deal prices.
