This is definitely the truest version of a “mileage run” – earning miles by actually running! If you are planning on running the Athens Marathon (the AUTHENTIC Athens Marathon) next month, make sure you sign up to earn 4,200 airline miles upon your complete of the race! If you are running one of the other events, you can earn miles as well!

Aegean Airlines has been the airline to offer runners something special for finishing races. For the marathon in Cyprus next year, you can earn miles for those races as well.
But, the Authentic Athens Marathon is a new addition to the earning-miles-by-running races. Unfortunately, the races are already filled to capacity but if you are one of the 18,000+ people registered to run, you can earn these miles just for finishing the race!
Here are the earning rates for the different races:
- Marathon Race – 4,200 award miles
- 10km Road Race – 1,000 award miles
- 5km Road Race Morning – 500 award miles
- 5km Road Race Afternoon – 500 award miles
Not a bad little haul for running 26.2 miles, is it? 🙂 In fact, you could look at it as earning 160 miles per mile you run (if you actually finish). With domestic flights on Aegean starting at just 5,000 miles, this means you could earn almost enough miles to a free flight by finishing the marathon. Of course, if you are new to the Miles&Bonus program, you can earn an additional 1,000 miles just for signing up so you will have more than enough!
If you are running this race with friends, make sure they sign up as well even if they don’t want the miles! For 15€, you can transfer those 4,200 miles to your account (the transfer is free if you are an Aegean elite and setup the Together Account).
