The deals just keep coming in. This time it is from eBags and stacking a few offers can bring some big savings

This morning, I saw eBags is running a gift card promotion. This could bring about some big savings for you, especially if you are in the market for some new travel gear. So, how can you take full advantage of these discounted eBags gift cards?

Update: According to Jason in the comments, “Thanks for the quick reply! I chatted with eBags and you’ll actually have to get someone to combine all the codes before placing the order. Just a heads up! Thanks for the great info.” Once you buy your gift cards, you will need to have someone at eBags combine all your codes before placing your order.

How You Can Save with eBags Current Promotion

The Deal

If you head on over to eBags, you can see they offering an extra $10 e-gift card with every $50 gift card you purchase. This deal goes until December 24th and they are limiting you to 5 free gift cards. The most you’ll earn is $50 in free gift card money for yourself. 🙂

This deal in itself gives you about a 17% discount at eBags. Now let’s make this better!

Stacking this Deal

If you haven’t noticed by now, I am a big fan of stacking offers with Amex Offers. These offers are probably why I keep so many American Express cards around!

Currently, you can receive a $10 statement credit when you spend $50 or more at ebags.com. Also, if you read the language of the offer, this does not exclude gift cards!

So, if you are able to purchase this with your American Express you can receive a $60 eBags Gift card for $40.

Using a Portal

There are portal pay outs for eBags as well, and typically the payouts are in the double digit percentages.

Usually, gift cards are excluded from portal payouts, but I have had luck with one portal for paying out on gift cards. The Ultimate Reward portal I have had the most success in receiving points for gift card purchases. Now, as with most situations, YMMV, but it can’t hurt to try, right?

Now, you’ll see the Ultimate Reward portal is 8 points per dollar, which is a very good pay out (I think so at least). If you were to take full advantage of this offer and received points as well, you would earn an extra 2,000 Ultimate Reward points for $200, really making it 10 points per dollar.

After you receive your gift cards you can go back into the portal and use the gift cards to make your purchase. If Ultimate Rewards is your currency of choice, this is again 8 points per dollar. If you prefer cash back there are a few options.

Looking at cash back portals the highest payouts are 12% cash back, which is $36 if you were to use the full $300 in gift cards you received. Now they also are offering 20% cash back on Tumi and Select Handbags: Fossil, Skagen, The Sak, Sakroots, Michael Kors, Kate Spade New York, Frye, Cole Haan, Vince Camuto, Baggallini,  and Anuschka.

Now,  TopCashBack is also has a promo code for Brics, where if you use the promo code BRICS, you’ll receive $50 off every $250. If you prefer Briggs, use the promo code BRIGGS and you’ll receive $50 off every $350. This is in addition to the cash back earned.

On top of this, you’ll earn 5% eBags rewards toward your next purchase. If you haven’t used eBags before, if you use my personal referral link you’ll receive 20% off your first order (exclusions do apply) and I’ll receive a $10 eBags credit.

Using for Other Gear:

I also noticed eBags sells Bose Headphones and other running gear, like Under Armour. This is a great way to stack savings to buy some new headphones for running or if you prefer over the earn headphones.

If you are able to stack these deals, you can save up to 45% on these headphones.

If you are looking at running gear, like Under Armour, you can use this stacking method as well for some discounted running gear.

Free Shipping

Another great perk of American Express is Shoprunner. You will receive free 2 day shipping at retailers that are enrolled in Shoprunner. The great news is that eBags is part of this program, so you’ll be able to not only save money on your purchase, but it will arrive quickly and cost you nothing!

Just another great perk of an American Express cards!

Conclusion

Stacking some of these deals can lead to some pretty solid savings on your travel gear, or even other gear like headphones, or running.

There is a limit of 5 free gift cards, and must be ordered by December 24th. If you are in the market for some new bags or gear, this might b worth jumping on.

Are you going to take advantage of this deal?

After completing 6 years of pharmacy school, I finally had the time to travel. I started investigating ways to travel for less and when I redeemed my first award flight for my honeymoon, I knew I was hooked! Fast forward a couple of years and places I had never dreamed of visiting like Budapest, Honolulu, Bermuda and many other places where all within my reach, and for little to no money out of my pocket. Now, I have collected well over a million points and miles, and try to help people travel for less on their wallet.

    • Hey Jason,

You’d need to purchase the GCs one at a time to maximize AMEX offer, but you shouldn’t have any issue redeeming all at once.

I’ve seen nothing in their T&C saying you can only redeem 1 GC at a time.

      Hope that helps,
      Dustin

      • Thanks for the quick reply! I chatted with eBags and you’ll actually have to get someone to combine all the codes before placing the order. Just a heads up! Thanks for the great info.

        • Hey Jason,

Thanks for the update. When I get home I’ll update with your data point.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it!

        • To add to what Jason said, you can buy a single eGift card rather than multiple $50 cards. I bought a $200 eGift card and received the code for that immediately. eBags support said I should receive the code for the free card within 24 hours of purchase, but I received the email within a half hour.

I then emailed info@ebags.com with the two codes to combine. eBags said the turnaround time for that was max 2 hours, and I had mine combined within a half hour.

  • Both United and AA portal routinely run promo with up to 24 miles per dollar. I’d just buy gift cards now and wait for one of those mileage promos. If you value AA or United miles at around 2 cents, you are looking at potentially over 60% off a Bose headphone. Or over 80% off luggage because a mileage promo often comes with a 20%-25% off coupon too.

    • According to cashbackmonitor.com, within the last year neither United nor AA’s portal exceeded a return of 18 miles per dollar.

    • Hey Al,

Thats not a bad strategy, especially if you fly those airlines.

Thanks for reading, I appreciate it.

  • Hi – The T&C says no electronics for points posting from eBags to the British Airways portal. Since you mentioned Bose headphones, I wondered if you had a data point on if they post.
