Huge deal from Southwest! Check out this Southwest 50% off sale – good for cash and points! This brings a lot of more expensive tickets down in price!

Southwest is celebrating their 50th anniversary and, to be quite honest, their sales up to this point had been a little … lacking. They had talked about something big and normally, the first week in June would be one of their WOW sales with tickets starting at $49 and going up in like $20 increments depending on distance. Well, for many of you, this sale is far better and definitely one to book right away!

This sale, at least on all the routes I keep my eyes on, is really, really good! There are some short-haul routes that are just hitting the normal price that it would be during one of the 2 WOW sales in the year but for longer hauls or connections, it is definitely a great deal!

The best thing is that it works for paid tickets or award tickets! For those of you who bought gift cards last week on the big 50X point deal, this is a good time to start using those!

Here are the details you need to know: bolding and italics are mine

  • Available for Wanna Get Away®, Anytime, and Business Select® fares
  • Must book between June 15 – June 17
  • Must fly between September 15 – November 3
    • If you book something that has a return outside of that range, the outgoing (or whatever part is out of the range of dates) will be priced at the normal level.
  • The 50% is off the base fares (which means that some of the typically cheaper fares will not get a whole lot cheaper since the actual ticket cost is not that high normally)
  • Only valid on new reservations (if you had booked previously and now it is cheaper, just go ahead and rebook to get the lower price)
  • Use code SAVE50 in the promotion code box when you click the link above to get the sale price

This is one of the few sales that is available at all fare amounts. Since all Southwest tickets are free to refund or change and you get free bags with all fares, here is a little table to show you exactly what you get by booking a higher fare class than the typically cheap Wanna Get Away® tickets.

Check Your Already-Booked Reservations For Price Difference

So, now is the time to search for your tickets within this sale and see if you have a better price available now than when you had booked it. If the price has dropped, you simply select to change the flight and look at the same dates and flights again. Once you go through and confirm, you will receive a refund of the difference in miles and the cash for the taxes will be transferred for the new ticket.

In 1 Minute, You Can Have Your Points Back!

The whole process takes less than 60 seconds and you could save a lot of money or points! If you had booked your ticket in the past using cash, you will receive a refund in the form of a credit that is usable for 1 year from the time you originally booked the ticket. If you booked it with points, you will receive the points back in your account for the difference.

  • I have some Southwest travel bank credits that I would like to use up before they expire (in December). Is there any downside to using those credits to make some speculative bookings? I.e. if I end up canceling those tickets will I just receive the travel credits back and the expiration date won’t change?
