Good morning and thank you for following along last week! This is the Weekly Summary that will sum up the posts from throughout the week.
United’s fare sale on award tickets expired yesterday and it was a pretty good one. I was able to take advantage of it in ways that saved me tens of thousands of United miles and hopefully you did as well.
Samsung revealed their latest cell phones this weekend and the reveal comes with some very promising news for credit card users. Make sure you check back here tomorrow to find out what that news is.
United had a problem with their currency conversion (we can at least put the blame on United for that instead of following United’s lead of blaming a third-party – their site, their problem) that saw thousands of business and first class tickets sold for a fraction of what they normally go for. The DOT ruling came out that they were not going to hold United to the error in currency, which was expected. However, the language they chose to make that ruling does not bode well for future errors or bookings that are less obvious than this one.
North Korea opened up the Pyongyang Marathon last year to foreign amateur runners for the first time and over 500 runners signed up for it this year only to be told this week that North Korea would not be issuing the visas necessary for travel. It is surely a shame for the runners that had planned on running and the tour groups that had a lot of business tied up with those running tours.
The new IHG Pointbreaks list is out for cheap hotel rooms. While it is not as appealing of a list as some of the hotels made available through this promotion from time to time, it still presents dozens of hotels that are available for only 5,000 points per night. Some of these hotels may work as options for upcoming trips. I also listed the notable hotels on the list.
Making plans for a big trip can be difficult to put together. Unraveling it and rebooking it can be even more difficult. Here are some steps I use to do just that in a way that makes it a little bit easier.
SPG and Uber have formed a recent partnership that is sure to help people accrue more hotel points and even airline miles.
Luggage and electronics have again come together in a way to simply travel and convenience. This carryon will actually carry you around instead of the other day around!
Aegean Airlines is a great Star Alliance partner has a nice network around Europe. However, for some reason, Aegean award flights are no longer showing up on United’s online booking engine after September of this year. Fortunately, there is a way to still book these awards.
Many people like the convenience and entertainment that tablets provide. This was a great deal for a really good iPad but it has already sold out. I try to give the best of such deals when they are presented so that is one more reason to check in here often!
Here was another deal that only lasted for a little while and gave a great chance to grab some photos while around.
Singapore Airlines has some amazing premium cabins and they are very stingy about releasing award space on those planes to their partners. So, it is a great help that they have reduced fuel surcharges on award tickets that will make booking such cabins just a little bit cheaper.
It is normally not the best idea to transfer miles between accounts because of the cost involved but if you have orphan miles in accounts, this option might be helpful to you.
Yesterday was the final day to use the Diamond Suite Upgrades given out last year. Fortunately, since today is a new member year with Hyatt, we now have 4 new suite upgrades to use for bookings over the next year.
Here was another deal – an opportunity to get one of the most popular GPS watches at a great price! I know some of you got in on this but if you did not, these deals should come around again.
Not having had a giveaway in a little while, I ran a quick one that saw 5 lucky winners receive magazine subscriptions. Thanks to all of you who visit the site!
Today is the final day to secure the limited-time 60,000 point offer with the Chase Ink Plus. There is still time if you want to snag those extra points.
The Apple Watch is coming out soon and there are some features that are sure to excite many. One feature recently talked about does have some draw for me now!
An American Airlines flight yesterday had severe delays – in fact, it was delayed 9 hours for what should have been a simple 30 minute flight.
