These offers float around from time to time. My wife used to get them often but it has been a long time since I had one on my US Airways card. I get so many e-mails in a day that I almost missed this one, so check your e-mail for a similar offer!

Earn 15,000 US Airway miles for spending $1,500 over three months!

Earn 15,000 US Airway Miles for $1,500 Spending

The offer is very simple and lucrative – spend $500 in November, December, and January and receive a bonus of 15,000 US Airway miles for achieving that spend. $500 per month (for three months) is really nothing at all! You can purchase one gift card on the first of each month and you are done!

It is common to receive retention bonuses on cards like the Chase Ink products that say you will get 10,000 Ultimate Reward points but you normally have to spend $5,000 in three months to get that. This offer gives 5,000 more miles and allows you to do it for $3,500 less in spend.

Since I would put US Airway miles at a value of around 1.8 cents per mile, this spending bonus comes out to $270 value! That is really good. Based on the spending, it basically equates to earning 11 miles per dollar spent for the $1,500.

What If You Are Not Targeted?

Obviously, not everyone will have an offer like this. But, there are a couple of things that you may be able to do to better position yourself to be targeted.

First, stop using your US Airways credit card! I know many people that have received offers like this and all of them received them when they were not using the card. Really, this is not even the best card to earn US Airway miles on. The Amex SPG card also earns 1 point per dollar but if you transfer Starpoints over to US Airways in blocks of 20,000, you will receive an additional 5,000 miles. That means you are essentially earning 1.25 miles per cent when spent on the SPG card and transferred to US Airways. So, stop using your US Airways card! They are more likely to send you an offer like this to incentivize your spending on the card, so by not using it, you stand a better chance of getting such an offer.

The second thing would be to call Barclay (the issuing bank) near your anniversary date. They are not going to want to lose customers at this point and they may work with you on a similar spending challenge to keep your card open. Just give them a call and ask them if there is anything they can extend to you since you have heard of others receiving a similar offer near their anniversary date (which is what this is for me).

This is for certain an easy spending decision! With the ability to fly roundtrip to Europe during the off-peak season for 30,000 miles, this spending puts me halfway there!

If you do not have the US Airways card, check out this post from yesterday that offers the anniversary bonus of 10,000 miles. My affiliate link does not offer that, so the offer from yesterday is definitely the better option.

  • Just curious when you received this email and what the subject of it was? I checked my inbox and didn’t see it but just wanted to make sure I didn’t miss it. Thanks.

    • I actually got it a week ago! I just didn’t notice it until recently. The subject was “Earn 15,000 Miles With Your Card.” I would not limit your search to that, though, because some offers are for 10,000. Search for US Airways and “each calendar month.” That should pop it if you did receive it.

  • Have you ever called up to ask for a match to an offer? I have earn 2 bonus pts for every $ up to 2,500 bonus points (so $1,250 spend) from oct 1 – dec 31. What are your thoughts?

    • I haven’t called them before, no. If your annual fee comes due during this time period, I would definitely call them and let them know you got this offer but it seems really small compared to the cost of the card (especially if you do not get the anniversary bonus). If you are trying to rack up US Airway miles and the spend is not a problem, I guess I would go ahead and fulfill that but it seems quite small. Every mile counts, though!

  • I never use my us airways card since I made first purchase almost a year ago to get the sign up bonus but I never receive such an offer….weird…..i just searched my email.
