There has been a lot of stories all over the internet this week about the $19 billion deal Facebook made in purchasing the messaging app, WhatsApp. Along with the stories have come quite a bit of information about the man who founded the app, Jan Koum. As of this week, he is now worth $6.8 billion. As incredible as that is, something even more amazing (to me, anyway) is that he and his mother lived on food stamps when he was a teenager. In fact, he signed the deal at the very building where he used to go to collect his food stamps. Amazing story! Here is more of the same.
However, in addition to all of that, and a lot more, there was something interesting about him – he is also a miles and points collector. He is a member of Flyertalk, and actually took discussion of his app to Flyertalk to ask for thoughts right after he made it. In that same thread, he shared the following info about the deal and miles and points:
Kind of cool – reading about a guy who just signed a $19 billion deal thinking about his award ticket (and that he is even booking an award ticket!). 🙂 Would you still care about your miles if you just made almost $6 billion? 🙂
