Newest List of IHG Pointbreaks Hotels - Good Through July 2016

The greatest deal in hotel rewards is back again with a refresh for travel over the next two months. IHG Pointbreaks hotels are a rotating list of hotels that go from their regular rates to only 5K points per night. Some of the lists have been great and some have been not-so-great. This list falls into that last one, but still, you could find something of interest!

What To Look For

The list of hotels is not such that would make most people want to plan an entire trip around staying at one (like an Intercontinental might) but there are still places of value to be found on the list. It all depends on your use and your travel plans.

When these lists come out, the first thing I search for is airport hotels. For only 5,000 points for a night, it is a great value to grab an airport hotel, even if it is just for a few hours. This time around, there are only 5 airport locations and they are scattered around – one for St. Louis airport, one in France, one in Germany, one in Ecuador, and one in Russia.

There are a few in college/university areas as well. If you are headed someplace for a college graduation, they could make great stops for sure! This includes military bases if you have someone based there or graduating from one.

Finally, check for race locations! I see some, like Memphis, that would make great spots for the weekend of marathons taking place between now and July 31. That is a great way to secure a hotel at a very cheap rate.

Getting the Points for Cheap

You can still purchase IHG points directly from the Daily Getaway page (check this page for the information) and that should help you. Or you can use the method of using Points and Cash to book a room and then cancel the reservation. It will put the points back in your account instead of cash and you will have effectively paid only .6 cents each. That means $30 per night for these rooms!

Finally, while it is too late to book now, you could also grab the IHG card with the 70,000 (plus 5K for adding an authorized user) bonus. That should really help out for next time! Plus, do not forget you can transfer Ultimate Reward points at a rate of 1:1, but you can get greater value transferring them to other partners.
