WOW air and Icelandair continue to make a push into the US market to bring cities more connected with Europe. This latest push adds cities in the Midwest-ish area to the route map and make it more possible now than ever to avoid the congestion and connections of larger airports.
Smaller US Airports Now Connected With Non-Stop Flights to Europe
Here are the new cities that these airlines are servicing:
WOW air
- Cleveland, Ohio
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Detroit, Michigan
- St. Louis, Missouri
Icelandair
- Cleveland, Ohio
Cleveland used to have several European destinations as a Continental hub. So, I am sure there will be a lot of central Ohio residents that will be quite happy about having two more airlines serving their area airport now with service to Europe.

These flights will begin next Spring but they are already loaded up for sale and with fares as low as $99 one way. Being able to get on a plane and fly to Iceland from only $99 is a pretty great deal!

But, remember that with WOW you will be paying for all the things you are used to getting for free on other airlines – things like a checked bag, large carryon, seat assignment, and snacks. If you can travel in a minimal style, then you are good to go!
I am actually excited about these new cities being served because it means that people can avoid the huge annoyances of an airport transfer in some place like JFK or London just to get to Europe. Yes, you will likely have the same number of connections that you would have if you are used to booking with American, United, or Delta but you will be able to step onboard from your own home airport (that is likely much smaller than the other airports) and then change flights in Iceland – which is a pretty cool place to be anyway!

Don’t forget that you can do some great things like getting a free layover in Iceland with these airlines as well. This is a great way to enjoy the beauties of the country enroute to your destination in Europe.
All in all, I am happy for this move. While I have not yet flown WOW, I think there will be a lot of people excited about them connecting their Midwest airports to Europe in a single hop.

Didn’t two of these airports have service already to Europe? Detroit = of course; Cincinnati = Delta flight to Paris….
You are right though Detroit’s tickets tend to not be anything near cheap. And Cincinnati has had that flight as an on again/off again thing as far as Delta talking of pulling it. Maybe having WOW there now will convince Delta to just keep it there.
