Last Call To Buy US Airway Miles For 1.1 Cents A Piece

Check out the giveaway ending today!

Today is the last day to share US Airway miles between accounts and receive a bonus – basically, it allows you to purchase US Airway miles for 1.1 cents a piece. If you transfer the maximum of 50,000 miles between accounts, it will cost you $567 and you will receive a bonus of 50,000 miles in the recipient account. If you have multiple accounts within a family, you can share amongst them to receive a total of 100,000 miles in each account. The limit is 50,000 received miles (not bonus) with this promo. So, the most a single account can get from this is a total of 100,000 miles.

This promotion just decreased the potential value of this promo slightly with the increase of the sweet spot award (US-North Asia via Europe in business class for 90,000 miles) to 110,000 miles. However, that was really it so far. I completely expect US Airways to run another devaluation within the next couple/few months. My guess is that they would make an announcement about the next one. So, should you still take advantage of this promo?

If you have an award redemption in mind, then I would say, yes, go for it. There are a lot of things you can do with 100,000 miles. That is just 20,000 miles short of being able to redeem from US to North Asia in first class for 120,000 miles! That is a great deal to be able to fly that far on an airline like Cathay Pacific in first class! In addition, you can redeem for awards around the world that could cost over $1,000 just in economy. Instead, you could spend that much to get 100,000 bonus miles (by transferring back and forth) that would let you fly many of those routes in business class (or come just short of the amount needed). If business class is important for you, then I would take advantage of this promo. If you would like to try flying first class on American Airline’s transcontinental A321, you could do that for 50,000 miles round-trip. In addition, you could fly round-trip from JFK-Vancouver on Cathay Pacific in first class (same first class as their Hong Kong flights) for only 50,000 miles as well.

This promo is definitely not for everyone, but if you can find some value in purchasing these miles for a basic 1.1 cents per mile (if shared at the highest levels), then I would suggest you go ahead and take advantage of this promo today.
