In preparation for my 6 marathons on 6 continents in 4.5 days, my training has ramped up (and even hit some lows as well) and now I am in preparation for other facets of this major trip as well. Of course, the entire round-the-world trip has been paid for with miles and that is done. The rest of the planning involves courses in the various cities so that I can hit the ground running, literally.
I am making a day trip to Cairo shortly to get my route settled and am headed to Abu Dhabi for a day as well. The part about the Abu Dhabi training trip is that it, by itself, can actually be a major run! This is a place that is one of the hottest around with temps in the 110-118 range for a long time. But, I need to do it to get my course and make sure I am ready for the heat I may face in September there as well.
Interact With Me Live During One, Incredibly Hot Run!
- Date – August 17th
- Location – Abu Dhabi
- Approx. Temperature – 111 Degrees!
- Starting Time – 12:00PM (4AM ET) Tentatively
So, I thought this would not only be a great opportunity for training but also a good test time to test some of the interactive parts of my big trip as well. Finally, in addition to those things, I thought it would be a great time to do “micro” fundraising for the charity that the big event is being done for – Wounded Warrior Project.
Track My Run And Pace – Live!
Here is what I am thinking – I will have my live tracking on so that you can track my run, pace, heart rate, location – pretty much anything during the run in Abu Dhabi! I will be doing this for the big event as well so it will give you a little taste of what you can do later.
I mean, that is just too cool! You can visit the site and track me running (for some of you, thousands of miles away) live! The information you can see is really cool!
Watch Live Video With Periscope – And Communicate With Me During The Run
I will also be using Periscope, the new Twitter live video feed. It is very interactive as you can comment to me during the live broadcast and I can respond. I will be doing some live video aspects during my run and would love to go back and forth with all of you! Ask me any questions you may want to about the run, miles/points, Abu Dhabi, the temperatures – have some fun!
You Control How Far I Run!
Here is the even better part of this interaction – you can actually help me by kicking me into gear! This run is going to be brutal for that heat. I have run in Badwater (a 135 mile footrace in Death Valley in July) as a pacer so I am not a stranger to intense desert runs. Also, most of my long runs over the last month have been done in 90 – 105 degree temperatures.
The More You Give, The Farther I Run
BUT, this run will still be brutal! The goal is to at least cover the 26.2 miles that I will run just a few weeks later in Abu Dhabi as part of my big run. Here is what you can do – donate to Wounded Warrior Project (my chosen charity for the big Running Round the World With Miles) before/during this run.
Every time I see the donation number rise, it will definitely give me the energy to keep going. Plus, if we get over a certain number I will write later, I will go further for every $100 raised over that amount! So, how far I run that day is actually up to you all!
Not only can you control my run, but I am also working on a little incentive program for that day. I will publish that when the day gets closer as well.
So, come along for this awesome trip and run! You can be sitting in your air-conditioned office and be tracking my run while making me run farther by donating. Isn’t that a fun day? 🙂
