Today’s Getaway Deal is for those who want to buy IHG points. But, this is certainly not as great of a deal as it may seem. Find out why!

The Daily Getaway deals are underway and will be here each week through May 6. Of course, not all of them are going to be great deals for most of us – in fact, there are very few good deals. But all of our needs/interests are different so I will bring you the ones that are of most interest.

These packages are on sale and go live at 1PM ET today! daily getaway website

Today’s Daily Getaway deal is for IHG points. As in past years, these are sold in lots. In fact, the amount of packages available per band of points and their cost is exactly the same as before. In past years, they did not sell out on the day of the sale either. So, if you do not pull the trigger today, there is a good chance that they may still be around for a bit.

As you can see, there are a ton of 100K point packages available! If you need that many points, you should not have a lot of competition.

But Is This A Good Deal?

Now we come to deciding if it is a good deal. The answer will side towards NO more this year than it did last year. Let’s see why:

  • Possible to buy points at .6 cents each any day of the week
  • Many people have a glut of IHG points thanks to the Postcard Priceless Surprise promo
  • IHG added two new upper categories and now charges more for their best properties
  • 100% promos from IHG that allows you to buy at .575 cents each

Of course, IHG owns the best hotel awards around with the IHG Pointbreaks (hotels chosen every two months to be available for 5,000 points per night) but I would certainly not buy the 100,000 point package for speculative Pointbreak awards.

Let’s look at it this way. Since it is possible to buy IHG points for .6 cents each, it is definitely not worth buying the 15,000 point or 25,000 point packages (unless you want to go for a simple transaction) since they sell at the same rate. At the 50,000 point level, you would be saving $7 by purchasing the package today (instead of “buying” points as linked to above).

At the 100,000 point level, you would be saving only $35 over “buying” points at .6 cents each. For that small of savings, I would not purchase 100,000 points unless it was for something that I was ready to book now and that would let me do it.

Summary

Still, this may work for some people! Just know what the math looks like when you go in. The nice part is that you can buy 15,000 points for $90 without doing any work and that will give you 3 nights at a Pointsbreak hotel!

Do you plan on purchasing a package? Which one?
