Yesterday, Hyatt pushed out their changes to hotels that will shift in categories next year. Today, it came out that another change is being made – Hyatt’s My Elite Rate will be discontinued in 2015.
Hyatt introduced this special elite rate earlier this year. It was a rate that gave 20% off the regular rate for Platinum and Diamond members. It was, however, not available at all hotels on all dates. I found it to be convenient for some days, but it was not as plentiful amongst the hotels as I would have liked.
One of the best things about this rate is that it was available for anyone with a Chase Hyatt card. Since that card gave Platinum status, every cardholder had access to these discounted rates.
Hyatt’s My Elite Rate will go away in 2015
Hyatt said that the results of this program (which they called a “beta test”) did not “warrant a permanent roll out” so that is the reason it is being discontinued.
One of the things about this rate was that it was fully cancelable and counted for elite credit and bonuses. It was cheaper than the advance rate (which was not cancelable) so it made for a great alternative to award stays or Points + Cash stays.
Here is what Jeff Zidell from Hyatt said about the discontinuation of the My Elite Rate:
Points + Cash and My Elite Rate. Points + Cash has been very successful, and we are looking at ways to enhance it even further. Points + Cash was launched with the full intention of making it a permanent element of the loyalty program; whereas, My Elite Rate was launched as a beta test for the calendar year. At this point, we have chosen not to roll out My Elite Rate on a permanent basis, and it will not be available in 2015. I realize that many of you enjoyed My Elite Rate and were strong advocates for its continuation; however, the results from our beta test did not warrant a permanent roll out. We are currently working on a variety of new programs to make your travels in 2015 more effortless, more personalized and more rewarding, and you will begin to hear about some of these initiatives in the first quarter.
So, the good news is that Points + Cash is staying. That is great news because it is a wonderful program that I actually found to be quite available at many of the Hyatts I stayed at. As for the My Elite Rate going away, there are many corporate rates and the AAA rate that people can/do use that provides a great discount as well. So, it is easier to say goodbye to My Elite Rate instead of the Points + Cash so I am happy to see the Points + Cash stay.
