Even with people taking great care of their electronics, it is always a possibility that something could happen to that expensive smartphone that was subsidized by renewing a contract. Once, my cell phone (years ago) fell out of my pocket into a puddle – just 1 week before I was eligible for a new phone and hours before a business trip. 🙂 Fortunately, they let me upgrade at the subsidized price, but that does not happen much anymore.

Screen Shot 2014-12-21 at 6.14.59 PMIf you have AT&T and need a brand new smartphone or need a phone that you can pop unto your account when selling an old phone, losing the phone, etc, you will not get a better phone deal than this. It is the Nokia Lumia 520 GoPhone and is on sale today from Amazon for only $19.99 – no contract!

This is a fully-featured smartphone that utilizes the Windows Phone software. You can use this as a stand-alone GPS unit, a MP3 player, or even a tablet like device when connected to WiFi – without having an AT&T plan. It is locked to AT&T, but you can have them unlock it for global use after 90 days on a plan or pay one of the online services for an unlock code.

If you have not maxed out your $1,500 in category spend with your Chase Freedom card, you will get 5% cash back if you use your Chase Freedom!

Do you have this phone or have experience with it? What are your thoughts?

  • You are gonna hate this phone. I had it, and I finally got rid of it. The Windows user interface, like its cousin 8.1, is just unfriendly. And Nokia’s Siri counterpart, Cortana, can do more than Siri but is way more temperamental. Spend a little more money and buy a used Iphone 4 on ebay.

    • Thanks for the input! As someone who has not personally had one, this should be helpful to others who may be considering it. I have a very small Samsung Galaxy (a European model) that I had used when in between iPhones. I could not stand how bad the touchscreen was and how slow it was. Of course, I probably would have thought differently had I not used an iPhone before or the previous Galaxy S4
