If You Fly Delta, You Can Save 4% – But You Have To Spend A LOT!

Delta

Delta SkyBonus members received an offer yesterday for the Delta Private Jets Card. For those not familiar with Delta Private Jets Card, it is a card that you put a deposit on for charter flights with Delta. The minimum deposit is $100,000 and is non-refundable. It must be used within 2 years or the balance expires.

Delta Private Jets Card

One of the “good” things about the card is that you can actually use the balance on the card for commercial travel on Delta as well, not just private travel. So, if you spend $50,000 per year on Delta, this would work out well for you. 🙂 Not only do you get to save money (more on that in a minute), but you also receive Delta Diamond medallion status as a gift. Presumably, if you are traveling at the expense of $50,000 per year on Delta, you already have Diamond status (though I understand that if you are spending that on full-fare international business class, that may not be the case), so you have it to gift to someone else.

Now For the 4% Savings…

Through June 30, if you are a SkyBonus member (which is free to sign-up for and is the business rewards program with Delta), you will have a savings of 4% on your purchase of the card. So, if you buy the minimum of $100,000, you will actually save $4,000. Not bad, but still a large price to pay!

  • If you are FatCat McCEO and actually using the Private Jets part of it, to zip your plane-load of tipsy auditors and receptionists off to the SuperBowl so they’ll forget all about how you are embezzling and cooking books with both fists this makes great sense.

If you have 100K+ lying around, you’d be locking it up in Delta’s banks for 2 years and earn no interest on it.

I can think of a lot of places I could go in the next 2 years if I had 100K burning a hole in my pocket, and some of them would not be places that Delta conveniently flies to. Some of the SkyTeam partners in the parts of the world I’d like to see, can be downright scary.

Also AFAICR, if you have any balance at the end of 2 years, they get to keep it.

Sometimes I wish I was so rich I wouldn’t worry about spending money on a fur sink or an electric dog polisher, or a Private Jets card. Oh boy, I dropped a $100 bill can you pick it up and put it in the trash for me? Thanks.

  • […] Running with Miles reports that Delta offers a Delta Private Jets Card which gives you access to private jets and automatic top tier Delta Diamond status.  The catch?  You have to make a minimum non-refundable $100,000 deposit.  If that sounds too steep, don’t worry about it because Running with Miles shows how to save 4%!  See: If You Fly Delta, You Can Save 4% – But You Have To Spend A LOT!
