WOW Air is an airline that is based in Iceland and has begun to fly several routes from the US to Iceland, London, and Copenhagen. They offered the incredible price of $99 for flights from the US last year – and they are back again (thanks to euflyer for posting it)!

Fly From The US To Iceland For As Low As $99

Until the tickets run out (and I am already seeing limited availability for the $99 price), you can fly to Reykjavik from Boston or Baltimore for a mere $99 – total! Well, total if you plan on bringing a carry-on that does not weigh more than 11lbs and you don’t care where you sit (more on this below!). 🙂

To be able to fly to Iceland during their peak travel period for less than the cost of a ticket almost anywhere in America is a steal. But, make sure you know what you are getting into before you jump on this. This is a Ryanair-styled airline – you will be paying for everything and these seats are probably not going to be great. However, if you can endure the trade-offs, this gives you a great opportunity to see a beautiful country at a very low price.

The Part That Adds Up

However, this price is only good for the people that can fly very light. Being a low-cost carrier, WOW Air charges on extras of any kind. That includes carry-ons over 11lbs (!), seat selection, checked baggage, etc. Don’t think that you will be able to slip by with a heavier carry-on either – the cost for increased weight at the gate is 79 euro! If you pay it ahead of time, you can get an extra 15lbs for your carry-on for $29 each way (to Iceland, more to London). To see all fees, check this page.

I would just plan on paying the extra 29 euro each way for the heavier carry-on. I doubt many people at all can fit all of their luggage for an overseas trip into 11lbs. That is really not much at all. Plus, if you are traveling with a family, you may want to select seats in advance which will cost extra as well. Still, figuring all of these costs in, the roundtrip cost will still be cheaper than other airlines.

This is a great deal and hopefully will expand beyond these airports. One great thing about this fare is that it can get you to Iceland for the reykjavik marathon which is an awesome event. Another great thing about this is that the flight itself is not all that long – it is a little over 5 hours. But, one thing to be aware of – this flight will most likely be the cheapest thing of on your trip to Iceland! Iceland is an expensive country, especially during peak-time. Just be prepared for that – otherwise, this price is pretty great.

To be honest, I really do want to give WOW a try sometime. Maybe it is because of the motto they have chosen for their airline – “most punctual airline in Iceland.” Sure, I like punctuality, but I hope that the flight is known for a few other customer service friendly elements beyond the fact that they beat out Icelandair for being the most punctual! 🙂 If one of you happen to try it out, let me know how it goes!
