Now through Thanksgiving, any shopping you do through the Southwest portal will help you to get to the amount needed for the 5,500 bonus points available for Southwest shoppers!

Now Southwest has joined the shopping fray with their portal bonus offerings. If you are in the market for more Southwest points, here is your chance to get them!

Earn 5,500 Bonus Southwest Points Through Thanksgiving

Now through November 26 (yes, another Thanksgiving promo!), you can earn up to an extra 5,500 Southwest Rapid Reward points when you start your online shopping through the Rapid Reward shopping portal. Here are the spending and earning details of this offer:

  • Spend $150, earn 500 bonus points
  • Spend $550, earn 2,000 bonus points
  • Spend $1,500, earn 5,500 bonus points

That equates to a spending bonus of 3.66 points at the highest threshold. That is good and is on top of whatever bonus you earn with the various retailers as well, but you could still do better with the American Airlines offer (4 miles per dollar) or the United Airlines offer (4.8 miles per dollar).

Details and Terms (bolding mine):

  • Promo runs from November 11, 2015 through November 26, 2015 at 11:59:59 pm ET
  • You will receive a one-time bonus of up to 5,500 bonus points on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard points earned from shopping online through Rapid Rewards Shopping.
  • Bonus points will be issued based on the cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period
  • 500 bonus points for qualifying purchases of at least $150
  • 2,000 bonus points for qualifying purchases of at least $550
  • 5,500 bonus points for qualifying purchases of $1,500 or more
  • Returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products are not included in the bonus points eligibility calculation

Summary

While it is nice to have options for your shopping portals, I personally do not find this offer as good as the United or American ones. The spending is higher and the points are at a fixed value, compared to United and AA where you can get more value out of those miles. Still, if you like to shop through Southwest’s portal, definitely do it during this period to earn the bonus points!

Of course, you could always hit all the bonuses from the various portals if you really want to take advantage of these promos! 🙂
