The Small Business Saturday promotion from Amex is live. This does not mean you get to make the purchases yet, but you can register the cards that you will be using for shopping at small businesses on Saturday, November 29. Registration is capped so make sure you get in and do it early to ensure that you get all of your cards registered!

Registering for Small Business Saturday

To register, go to the link above and input your information (as seen below). It only takes about 30 seconds to do and you will be all set! You will need to do this for each American Express card you have and that you want to use.

The good part is that all American Express credit cards (including co-branded ones like Citi Amex cards), charge cards, and Bluebird and Serve cards are eligible for this promotion. So, get those cards together and start registering!

Once you finish registering via this simple form, you will receive an e-mail congratulating you for successfully registering. Now, you are in and ready to go! Just make sure you use those cards on November 29 at the proper small businesses (check this link for a map of local small businesses). Also, take note of this line from their T&C (which can be found here): Transactions with political campaigns or political action committees as well as purchases at gas or service stations do not qualify for the statement credit, regardless of whether they appear on the Shop Small Map. – (bolding mine)

Putting A Plan In Place

Since American Express has mixed it up a bit this year by requiring separate transactions to get the max of $30, it will take a little more time to get this all done. I generally like to purchase gift cards at my favorite place (Fleet Feet running store:) so I can use them later. Most merchants will most likely not have a problem with you doing multiple transactions to hit the $10 limit on each card. Just make sure it is not busy. For the merchant, this is money they are getting and they are fine with that!

So, the time to register is now. Time to shop? For that you will have to wait a couple of days. But it will be here before you know it, so start making plans now!
