Amazon Prime members are about to get a new benefit and that is savings on groceries at your local Whole Foods. That is just one of the many benefits coming as Amazon closes the deal with Whole Foods.

With Jeff Bezos’ purchase of Whole Foods, it was pretty much just a given that the Amazon flair would move to Whole Foods at some point. And that will be happening soon after the deal closes this next week.

Amazon Prime Will Get You Discounts At Whole Foods

Amazon Prime is a fantastic program and soon members will be getting an additional benefit. Amazon is planning on giving their Prime members discounts on various items at Whole Foods. This is obviously a nice way to start getting Amazon Prime members in the door but I really do not think it is close to the end of what Amazon will be trying to do.

There are a lot of people that are Prime members for the huge benefits it offers when ordering online but there are other people that have not signed up yet but may if they start seeing the ads and discounts at Whole Foods.

For anyone that does shop at Whole Foods, another great revelation is that the Amazon Rewards program will be rolled out through Whole Foods as well. This means your grocery shopping will also earn you rewards you can use later at Amazon. Love the sound of that!

And, finally, Amazon will begin stocking Whole Foods brands online for purchase as well. This will help people that may like the Whole Foods brand but are not near enough to pick them up from the store.

Here is a portion from Amazon’s release:

“Here’s what will be new in Whole Foods Market stores on Monday and what customers can expect over time as the two companies integrate:

  • Starting Monday, Whole Foods Market will offer lower prices on a selection of best-selling staples across its stores, with much more to come. Customers will enjoy lower prices on products like Whole Trade bananas, organic avocados, organic large brown eggs, organic responsibly-farmed salmon and tilapia, organic baby kale and baby lettuce, animal-welfare-rated 85% lean ground beef, creamy and crunchy almond butter, organic Gala and Fuji apples, organic rotisserie chicken, 365 Everyday Value organic butter, and much more.
  • In the future, after certain technical integration work is complete, Amazon Prime will become Whole Foods Market’s customer rewards program, providing Prime members with special savings and other in-store benefits.
  • Whole Foods Market’s healthy and high-quality private label products—including 365 Everyday Value, Whole Foods Market, Whole Paws and Whole Catch—will be available through Amazon.com, AmazonFresh, Prime Pantry and Prime Now.
  • Amazon Lockers will be available in select Whole Foods Market stores. Customers can have products shipped from Amazon.com to their local Whole Foods Market store for pick up or send returns back to Amazon during a trip to the store.

This is just the beginning – Amazon and Whole Foods Market plan to offer more in-store benefits and lower prices for customers over time as the two companies integrate logistics and point-of-sale and merchandising systems.”

I am looking forward to what else Amazon will be doing with this latest acquisition. Already the Amazon Prime credit card gives 5% back for Amazon rewards so it would be really great to see that extend to purchases at Whole Foods as well.
