All Southwest Cards Are At Least 50,000 Points Each – Great Time To Get The Companion Pass

The Southwest cards offer incredible value on their redemptions but they also offer the fantastic perk of the miles earned counting towards the Companion Pass, easily one of the best airline features around. With sign-up bonuses at 50,000 points for each card, that Companion Pass can be easily reached in no time.

Disclosure: I do not receive a commission for any of these cards.

All the Southwest cards are back to 50,000 points!

The Southwest credit cards – the Premier, the Plus, and the business Premier – have two main bonuses they offer. The standard offer is 25,000 points after spending $2,000 in 3 months (per card). However, about 3-4 times a year, those bonuses go from the standard 25K amount to 50,000 points. With the great frequency of the increased bonus (and their duration at the 50K level), there is never a reason to apply for the 25,000 point offer.

Now you don’t have to wait – the cards are all offering 50,000 points once again. The application page does not list an expiration date on the offer (there is a refer-a-friend offer on the personal Premier card that ends 8/18/15 so the increased bonus may last the better part of the summer).

Edit – In my haste writing this in the morning, I forgot that I did not include this info from my previous post:

Southwest Business Premier – 60,000 points

I saw one mentioned by shawn at miles to memories – 60,000 Rapid Reward points after spending $3,000 in 90 days. This is for the Southwest Business Premier card. That is a full 10,000 points better than the usual 50,000 point bonus on this card – at current Southwest redemption values for the Wanna Get Away fares, that is like getting an extra $160 bonus! That is a fantastic deal! Shawn has a link for the card on his post that he received through the offer but warns that it is only the landing page (so it does not show the offer) and it may be only for targeted members. doctor of credit notes that you can call Chase at 888-883-2721 and mention code DF01 to apply for this offer.

Points To Consider

It is rare for there to not be a 50,000 point link on the Southwest Premier card. But, the Southwest Plus card sees the 50,000 point amount the least of all the cards. The Southwest Premier card is available through the Chase Refer-A-Friend program so if you have a friend that already has that card, you may want to ask them for a referral. In contrast, the Plus referral is typically a targeted situation. If you have a personal referral link for the Southwest Plus card, feel free to leave it in the comments.

As with all the Chase credit card offers of late, if you have had the bonus within the last 24 months, you will “officially” not be eligible for the bonus on that particular card at this time. The same holds true if you currently hold the card you want to apply for.

However, if you have not had the bonus in 24 months and do not have the card, apply away! Keep in mind the other Chase cards and what they are offering at this time. Since there has not been “official” mention of the increase on these cards yet, I think it is fair to assume that these offers will be around at least through June. So, it is up to you when you want to apply for them.

You can apply for a business and personal on the same day. If you currently do not have any Southwest cards (or have not received bonuses in the last 24 months), I would apply for the Southwest Plus and the Southwest Business Premier at this time and leave the regular Premier for down the road. Applying for two cards and meeting the spending will leave you only 6,000 points shy of receiving the Companion Pass for the rest of 2015 and all of 2016.

Finally, none of these cards waive the annual fee for the first year and the annual fee will not count towards your minimum spend! So, keep that in mind when you are completing your spending!
