5K Friday

5K Friday: 5Ks On Runways/Airports

In order to give more information on races of many distances, I am going to start having different races on different days of the week. Friday will be 5K Friday. I will certainly cover 5Ks on other days of the week as well, but you can always count on finding out some information about 5Ks on Friday.

5K Friday: 5Ks on Runways/Airports

For this Friday, I thought it would be fun to look at some of the 5Ks on runways or airports. There are quite a few around the country and, having done a few myself, they are really fun events. It is cool to be trying to run fast down the same surface that the airplanes take-off and land on! It is also surprising that some of the runways are not as flat as you might think! The other interesting part is when the 5Ks take place in the summer – having worked a few airshows on the ground crews, I can tell you that runways and tarmacs are very hot places in the summer months!

Airport 5K

Manassas Runway 10K/5K

This race offers both a 10K and a 5K which is pretty cool! This race took place just last weekend so I do not have a date for 2015. My guess is it would be around the same time.

This race also was just recently run. It was the second running of it and I would imagine there would be a third around the same timeframe. This is a big airport and should be a fantastic race!
